University of Limpopo midfielder Malwandla Makamu is embracing the experience of competing in Varsity Football while acknowledging the challenges UL have faced since returning to the competition.

Makamu enrolled at the University of Limpopo in 2022 and is currently studying BSc Mathematical Science, known as Computer Science. His Varsity Football journey has provided him with an opportunity to compete on a bigger stage while helping UL find their feet in the tournament.
"In terms of my experience in the Varsity Cup, it has been a wonderful experience because we get to see how it is in the Varsity Cup, even though I couldn't say the same in terms of the performances and everything for our team."
The midfielder believes missed opportunities have contributed to UL's struggles so far.
"The thing is that we haven't managed to capitalise on our chances and everything; that's why we find ourselves in the position we're in right now."
Despite the setbacks, Makamu remains optimistic.
"But then it's a work in progress; I still believe in my teammates and everyone - we have to judge from the fact that we haven't participated in this competition for like eight years, so the nerves and everything are poised to be there."
