Wits determined to secure Varsity Football playoff spot [VIDEO]

Wits defender Kaihil Cloete says the team remains firmly in the fight for a place in the Varsity Football knockout stages despite suffering a 2-0 defeat to Johannesburg rivals UJ last week.

The Witsies will turn their attention to Friday’s clash against UP-Tuks, with Cloete insisting the squad remains determined to keep their qualification hopes alive.

"I think going to the game against Tuks, the mandate is still clear, the boys still have their heads high, and by no means does this mean we are out of qualifiers; we are still very much in contention,” he said.

Cloete admits the derby defeat was disappointing, but believes the squad has responded positively in preparation for another crucial fixture.

"The mood in the camp is still quite good. Obviously, given that result, taking a loss against UJ, it's never nice, and the morale may have taken a slight dip, but I think that the boys are resolute enough and the boys are tenacious enough to come back and understand how crucial the fixture against Tuks is."
