UJ targets maximum points in Joburg derby

Derby fixtures carry an undeniable magnetism, often capable of testing a team’s focus amid local rivalry, heightened expectations and passionate supporter banter. Yet, as the UJ prepares for one of its biggest tests of the season, head coach Karabo Mogudi is keeping the Orange Army firmly focused on the task ahead.

With emotions likely to run high, Mogudi knows the occasion can bring added pressure, but his message to the squad is clear: remain disciplined, trust the process and let their football do the talking.
Rather than getting swept up in the surrounding spectacle, UJ’s sights are set firmly on securing three vital points and consolidating their place at the summit of the standings.
UJ plays their second away game against Jo’burg city rivals Wits in a crucial Varsity Football tournament. History favours the visitors, with UJ holding the edge following a hard-fought 1-0 win over Wits at the UJ Stadium during the 2025 campaign.
However, Mogudi is acutely aware that past triumphs offer no guarantees in a fixture of this magnitude.
"Going into the fourth fixture, we want to consolidate our position on top of the tournament log standings. Our goal is to continue winning games so that we can secure a home semifinal and remain in contention for playoffs. We will focus on the match itself rather than the hype of the event," emphasizes Mogudi.
"We call on our fans who have valid tickets to arrive early at the stadium so that they can give the boys a morale boost before kick-off.”
Kick-off is scheduled for 19:15.
