University of Johannesburg (UJ) left-back Koketso Mathidza says his love for football is deeply rooted in his upbringing, with the sport forming an important part of his life from a young age.
Mathidza has quickly settled into life at UJ, with the welcoming environment allowing him to feel comfortable and express himself on the pitch.
"The atmosphere has been very good. The people here at UJ have been very welcoming. As soon as I got here, I just felt at home. I think it allowed me to enhance my performance and play to the best of my abilities,” said Mathidza.
The defender's passion for the game began during his primary school years.
"I started playing football in primary. I think I was under nine. I was eight years old, I just come from a background where football is loved,” he said.
That passion runs deep in his family, with his father having played for Dalmanian Chiefs back at home in Limpopo.
"Even at home, we have a club associated with our family. It's called Dalmanian Chiefs - it's a club my dad played for."
"I just come from a background of football and I think that's what made me enjoy football."
