DUT counting on home advantage when they face Tuks

DUT defender Zethembe Dlamini says his side are fully aware of the threat posed by UP-Tuks duo, Matome Rangata and Ntokozo Madela ahead of Friday’s crucial Varsity Football encounter.

KwaZulu-Natal based side have made an encouraging start to their Varsity Football campaign, with their defensive organization standing out after the opening three matches.

The men from the coast currently boast two clean sheets from three games, making them joint-second best defensive record in the competition. With a place in the semi-finals within reach, Friday’s clash against UP-Tuks could prove decisive in determining their fate.

The 20-year-old, who has played a key role in DUT’s impressive defensive performances, is well aware of the attacking threat posed by the Stripe Generation and believes defensive discipline will be crucial to securing a positive result.

“We are proud of our defensive record of two clean sheets in three games. It shows the hard work of the team and that if we are united, nothing can defeat us,” said the young Harding born.

“We know UP-Tuks have quality players like Ntokozo Madela and Matome Rangata. We respect them. They are experienced and dangerous, but we have been preparing well defensively as a unit, and we have a plan to try to contain them.”

Rangata has been one of Tuks’ standout performers this season, having already claimed two Man of the Match awards this season meaning that DUT’s defensive unit will face a stern test when the two sides meet this Friday.

Despite this danger, Dlamini believes his team’s positive mindset will be key as they stand at a window-peak point of view of a historic semi-final qualification.

“Friday’s game against UP-Tuks is very important for us to qualify for the semi-final. Our mindset as a team is positive and we are fully focused on the game.”

The young defender says his team will also be counting on home advantage to give them an extra boost at the Harry Gwala Stadium.

With the support of their local faithful behind them, Dlamini believes there is hope for his team to produce a memorable performance, promising to fight until the end.

“Playing at home in KZN means a lot to us. The support from our community gives our team extra motivation and belief, so we are grateful to play this match at the Harry Gwala. We always feel stronger at home.”

“We will surely fight until the end of the game,” he concluded.
