TUKS aiming to capture maiden Varsity Football Women's title

The Tuks Stripe Generation embark on another quest to capture their maiden Varsity Football Women's title, with newly appointed head coach Sibusiso Themba leading the charge. The former Moroka Swallows midfielder is no stranger to the Tuks setup, having previously served as assistant coach under Maude Khumalo, and now steps into the top role determined to guide the side to long-awaited Varsity Football glory.

The former Tuks player aims to perform better than season and lead the Pretoria outfit to a silverware.

“Last season didn't meet the standards expected of Tuks, we have used that as motivation to come back stronger. This season, our focus is on improving our consistency, competing in every match and putting ourselves back among the top teams in the competition. We want to give our supporters performances they can be proud of and show our commitment every time we step onto the field,” said the former AmaTuks midfielder.

“Every team begins the season with the ambition of winning the title, and we are no different. Our priority is to focus on one game at a time, keep improving as the season progresses and give ourselves the best chance of achieving our goals. If we remain disciplined, work hard and continue to grow as a team, we believe we have what it takes to compete for the championship. And who knows, maybe by the end of the season we will need to find some extra space in the trophy cabinet.”

Themba alluded that his troops are in fine condition ahead of the season and the acknowledge the challenge it comes with it. The Stripe Generation will open their 2026 account with a clash against defending champions UWC.

“It's a privilege to be given the opportunity to lead the Tuks ladies team, which has a rich sporting history,” said Themba.

“Starting the season against the defending champions will be a tough challenge, but it is also a great opportunity for us to test ourselves against one of the strongest teams in the competition. Playing at home gives us an advantage, with the support of our fans and the comfort of being familiar with our surroundings. However, we know that we will have to work hard, stay disciplined and execute our plans well to get the result we want.”

“We've welcomed a few new players who bring quality, energy and healthy competition to the squad. They have settled in well with the rest of the squad, and we are pleased with the mix of experienced players and young talent in the team.”
