UJ remain at the top of the Varsity Football standings after being held to a 1-1 draw by defending champions UFS at UJ Soweto Stadium, while UL and UWC also shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw at UWC Stadium. TUT bounced back from their previous defeat with a hard-fought 3-2 victory over DUT, earning a crucial three points as they push for a place in the semi-finals. Wits also strengthened their knockout-stage ambitions with a 2-1 victory over neighbours UP-Tuks, setting up an increasingly competitive race for the final four as the tournament enters its decisive stages.

Bayanda Mkhonza (UJ)

UJ shot-stopper Bayanda Mkhonza put up an impressive performance to keep UJ at the top of the log. The captain proved why he’s kept four clean sheets heading into the round 5 of the tournament conceding just a single goal from a penalty kick after saving the first penalty against UFS. Though he did not win the Player of the Match, his heroics against UFS showed why he’s UJ’s first choice between the sticks.

Reggie Kabelo Masebe (UL)

UL captain Reggie Kabelo Masebe stood out as the leader of the visitors' defensive effort. The commanding captain marshalled his back four with distinction and ensured that his team maintained its shape throughout the match. His leadership and defensive organisation were crucial in keeping UWC at bay for most of the encounter. Without Masebe's leadership and composure, UWC could have found the back of the net several times before the late penalty.

Kaihil Cloete (Wits)

Kaihil Cloete was a rock at the defence for Wits against UP-Tuks. Several free kicks awarded to the opposition were dealt with especially when they came in at header height. He commanded his fellow defenders well, and many recognised his efforts on the night.

Awande Buthelezi (DUT)

He impressed with his attacking threat throughout the match, scoring a brace. His movement and ability to create opportunities kept DUT in the contest and made him one of the most influential players on the pitch despite his side ultimately falling to a late 3-2 defeat.
