CUT are upbeat and confident as the countdown to the Varsity Football 2025 continues, with the eagerly anticipated competition kicking off on August 7.

CUT have sharpened their skills in two warm-up matches against Premier Soccer League (PSL) clubs, Marumo Gallants and Siwelele FC, in Bloemfontein - and it doesn’t get much better than preparing against full professional teams in the top-flight of South African domestic football.

Having two PSL teams competing in the city this season also serves as motivation, as the players are well aware that club scouts and representatives do attend and watch the games.

A major positive - and a key difference for CUT this season is that the players have also been putting in the hard work academically. As a result, they have a broader squad to select from, with more players earning the necessary academic credits to be eligible for the football field as well.

CUT coach Patric Malokase, who is heading into his second season in charge, says both he and the players learnt a great deal last year, and he’s confident a much-improved team will take to the field this time around.

“It’s going to be a different CUT this year,” said Malokase.

“This is a CUT team that’s hungry, a CUT team that’s competitive. If people are expecting the CUT from last season, they’re in for a big surprise."

“We love the way the players are gelling and the support we’re getting from management especially from our Vice-Chancellor."

“We’re looking good, and we just want to encourage our supporters, fellow students, and colleagues at the university to keep backing us like they’ve been doing — it really means a lot to us.”

CUT will be on the road in round one, travelling to Johannesburg to face Wits. That match is scheduled to kick-off at 18:30 on Thursday, 7 August, at the Wits Stadium.
