NEXT PREVIOUS CSI 29 Jul 2026 Campus launches set to ignite the road to Varsity Football 2026 The countdown to Varsity Football 2026 is heating up and campuses across the country are getting ready to turn up the temperature with a series of exciting campus launches ahead of kick-off on 1 August. More than just introducing the teams, the campus launches are where the #iyachesa spirit comes alive, bringing together players, students and supporters to celebrate university football and build excitement for another unforgettable season under the Friday Night Lights. Fans can expect an action-packed atmosphere featuring player introductions, mascot appearances, music, competitions, interactive games and plenty of opportunities to show off their university pride before the tournament gets underway. Every launch offers supporters the chance to meet the players who will represent their universities throughout the season, while giving teams the perfect send-off before they begin their quest for Varsity Football glory. The excitement doesn't stop there. Throughout the campus launches, promoters will be looking for the supporters who bring the biggest energy. The most passionate fans can enter the #iyachesaFAN competition, with winners featured across Varsity Sports' social media platforms and rewarded with R1 000 cash prizes for showing what true university spirit looks like. Supporters can also get involved by taking part in football challenges, dance-offs, interactive competitions and sharing their favourite campus launch moments on social media using #iyachesa . Every chant, celebration and post helps build the atmosphere that makes Varsity Football one of the country's most exciting university sporting events. Each university brings its own unique identity to the competition. From passionate student supporters and vibrant cheer squads to colourful mascots and unforgettable campus traditions, every launch promises a celebration of football, community and university pride. The campus launches mark the official beginning of the Varsity Football journey. Whether you're backing the defending champions, welcoming a returning team or supporting your university for the very first time, this is where the excitement begins. NEXT PREVIOUS CSI 21 Aug 2024 UWC Football Club’s ShowUs Initiative: Empowering Youth through Project Playground The University of the Western Cape (UWC) Football Club is stepping up to the challenge with its participation in the ShowUs campaign, an inspiring initiative that calls on universities across South Africa to contribute to meaningful change in their communities. ShowUs is a call to action, a movement designed to harness the power of varsity sports teams to make a real difference in society. The ShowUs campaign provides an incredible opportunity for varsity football teams to adopt community programs, engage with them, and share their impact on a broader platform. The concept is simple: each team selects a program to support, whether it's an existing initiative or a newly created one, and actively participates through volunteering, fundraising, or other forms of support. By documenting their involvement through photos, videos, and social media posts, teams not only raise awareness but also inspire others to join the cause. The underlying message is powerful: if each one of us changes just one thing, we have the power to ignite widespread change. UWC’s Partnership with Project Playground In response to the ShowUs challenge, UWC Football Club has chosen to partner with Project Playground (PPG), a foundation dedicated to improving the life opportunities of vulnerable children and youth. PPG operates with the mission of enhancing the future prospects of these young individuals through capacity-building, educational activities, and individual support. By doing so, PPG aims to help these children and youth gain self-esteem, develop faith in their futures, and acquire the tools they need to break free from the cycle of exclusion. Through this partnership, UWC Football Club members will not only act as mentors and role models but also use football as a means to teach valuable life lessons and foster teamwork among the youth. The club will also work to raise funds for PPG, with donations directly supporting the expansion of the foundation’s programs and increasing their impact. When asked why UWC Football Club chose to work with PPG, a spokesperson from the club shared, "We were drawn to Project Playground because of its unwavering commitment to youth empowerment. Our values as a club align with their innovative approach to addressing the socio-economic challenges that our communities face. We believe that by partnering with PPG, we can make a tangible difference in the lives of young people, providing them with the support and inspiration they need to overcome adversity." The funds raised by UWC Football Club will have a significant impact on Project Playground’s ability to reach more beneficiaries and enhance its programs. These donations will allow PPG to provide additional resources to support the well-being of the children and youth under its care, ultimately helping them build a brighter future.
